Everyone has to start somewhere and Brian was once a Beginner too. It is through Brian’s own experience that He now Refuses to Sell PreMade Beginner Fly Tying “Kits”. It has been His own experience that these ”Kits” are commonly made up of a mix of unpopular and/or poorly selling products, in an effort to clear out the Seller’s aging inventory. His Tip: Save Your money and buy high quality Tools and Materials, and then focus on developing the ability to tie consistent quality Flies.

If You are new to Fly Tying, the seemingly endless number of available Fly Tying Patterns/Recipes may seem daunting. So, Where do You start? What are good, easy Flies to cut Your teeth on and tie?

The simple answer is that there are a TON of simple quick Flies to practice tying when You have little to No Fly Tying experience.

Here are some Easy Flies to Tie:

BEGINNER FLIES TO TIE:

1) Tier 1 Beginner Flies

•Zebra Midge
•San Juan Worm

•Glo-Bug (Egg)

•The Green Weenie

•Brassie

2) Tier 2 Beginner Flies:

•Wooly Bugger

•Elk Hair Caddis

•Copper John

•Gold Ribbed Hare’s Ear

•Pheasant TaIl Nymph

To ensure that the Fly is completely Dry use desiccant, then apply a floating gel like ‘Gink’.

Care & Maintenance of Dry Flies:

  •  After Use Care

  1. Dry Completely using desiccant
  2. Apply floatant (powder, gel, liquid, cream, paste

  • Shorten Line

If Fishing a pocket, shorten Your line and get closer. Keep Your Rod top up.

  • Use Muscilin Grease

To Revive an older Fly, Rub Muscilin between Thumb+Index Finger to warm & melt before applying. Works really well on CDC Flies.

  • Coat with CDC Oil for CDC flies prior to use.

If all of the above Fails to keep Your Dry Fly afloat, then it’s time to move on & retire that Fly.
